Stars’ Stories Week!
Week 5 of DWTS features TWO episodes, and TWO eliminations! Monday night will focus on the most memorable year in the lives of each of the celebrity dancers. For Daniel, that’s the year he filmed the Oscar-winning film, Coda. Daniel and Britt performed a contemporary dance to the song featured in the film, Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now.
Tuesday Night is Prom Night! Daniel and Britt danced the cha-cha to SexyBack by Justin Timberlake. Tuesday night also included a dance marathon with the Hustle and the Lindy Hop!
Contemporary dances borrow from many dance styles – often including ballet and modern dance approaches. The cha cha is thought to have derived from the mambo. It is lively, upbeat, and flirtatious.
Monday Night
Monday’s episode featured a beautiful dance by Daniel and Britt to Both Sides Now. Daniel began the song performing in ASL. Gabe, the interpreter during the production, took over and completed the interpretation of the song while Daniel and Britt danced. The dance included several lifts โ a new challenge for team Sign To Shine. Practice paid off, and the couple received high praise from the judges.
There was no elimination on Monday evening. Actress Selma Blair announced that she could no longer continue with the competition because of the physical toll on her body.

This is the type of dance that transcends this competition. I was moved by that performance.
Derek
You make me feel like I’m dancing with you, even when I’m watching you.
Bruno
The chemistry that you guys have is amazing!
Tyra
Daniel, you’re so true; so real; so honest.
Bruno
What is so impressive is your feet. It’s very hard to do your feet well in contemporary … barefooted, totally exposed.
Carrie Anne
There’s a lovely connection between you both.
Len
I love the combination of ASL and dancing, bringing a more beautiful language.
Carrie Ann
As a judge, it was beautiful. It flowed. As a human, it was incredibly moving.
Derek
That was right up there โ well done.

Tuesday Night
Daniel and Britt opened Tuesday’s episode featured with a hip-intensive dance to SexyBack. The pair were in an obviously good mood and attacked their dance with loads of energy. With incredible, fast footwork, the pair flew across the dance floor โ setting off an exciting night of dance.
The night also included a dance marathon. Britt and Daniel changed from their pink prom outfits into fantastic blue dance costumes for the marathon. All of the couples danced at the same time, and were eliminated by the judges, one after the other. The last couple remaining earned extra points toward their score. Team Sign To Shine were eliminated first. The final two couples were Shangela and Gleb (earning 10 points) and Jessie and Alan (earning 11 points). At the end of the episode, Joseph and Daniella were eliminated.

You have that presence of a charismatic leading man.
Bruno
You continue your progress from last night … you got those hips moving.
Len
You ooze a swag and confidence when you’re dancing that is so awesome to watch. I love it so much.
Derek
I would like you to exaggerate your movements further than you are … I want it to blow the roof off the joint.
Carrie Ann
I’m happy to see you can turn on the sex appeal at will … you pitched it at just the right level. It is oozing underneath you.
Bruno
I see you, getting those hips moving!
